I used to be a counselor and so I've gotten to know the personality well. In my opinion it requires numerous things to shape a personality.
Genetics. Plays a bit of a role in the formative years. In particular any possible inherited disorders which affect personality.
Environment: Family, friends, cultural exposure. How you were raised. Your background. Religion or lack thereof.
Age: Although much of our personality changes as we mature it is ever an ongoing process and change does occur.
Experience: Simply put. Comes with age. Our experiences play a huge role in our personalities. Adversity and painful experiences can build character and bring out the best in us. Or it can bring out the worst. A child who has been molested might turn out to be a bitter and unhappy person. Or they might become a stronger person from their experience.
"Let teachers and priests and philosophers brood over questions of reality and illusion. I know this: if life is an illusion, then I am no less an illusion, and being thus, the illusion is real to me. I live, I burn with life, I love, I slay, and I am content."
"Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.
