Alright, I almost never post in this thread due to it reeking of lack of discussion and somewhat pretentious faggotry (seriously, do you really think we care what you're listening to so much that you have to tell us twice a day?) But I have a somewhat interesting story to share that kind of relates to this thread, so listen up.

Today, after reading one of my favorite stories, The Call of Cthulhu by Lovecraft as well as reading some Random Nietzsche quotes, I was feeling in a somewhat thoughtful Mood, I guess I'd say, so I decided to put on my favorite album, Ashes Against the Grain by Agalloch. Now, I'm sure anybody who browses this forum knows I fellate this album to no end, but today was a bit different. The ambiance was perfect: there was nobody else in the house so there was a profound Silence, I had just woken up from a nap not too long ago so I was feeling refreshed, yet not too alert- the perfect conditions to lay back, relax, and absorb the sounds of the album. I put the disc in my CD player, made sure everything was prepped and ready, turned off the lights, and listened.

I knew I had set everything right because when the Mood is right, my body actually physically reacts to the album. Once I had settled in while "Limbs" was playing, every new vocal utterance gave my spine chills, often rushing up and Down my body. I closed my eyes, laid my Head back and smiled- I wasn't even consciously trying to, it was just a natural Reaction for me due to the sensations of pleasure I was feeling. The feelings continued as the first track bled into the second- with every buildup, I slowly began to feel a Rush, with every breaking Down of the music, I did likewise, my Heart rate slowing Down and my breathing becoming slower. My mind painted pictures that I actually felt I could see through the windows that were my closed eyelids- VAST landscapes, trickling rivers, a man walking through a thick, Dark Forest, wondering what its significance is and how he can connect to it.

By the time "This White Mountain on Which You Will Die", the interlude, came on, I became aware of the state I was in- I noticed that I couldn't really feel my arms and legs individually, rather, my body had become a single entity- I felt the HEAT flowing through my body where my legs were crossed over and my hands were folded. I was like a single strip of HEAT, with various peaks and valleys- it's somewhat difficult for me to put into words but hopefully you comprehend.

Just like I do every time I play the album in full, I discover new new nuances and quirks about this album I didn't notice before- this one being the rather genuine neofolk influence in Fire Above, Ice Below. What I felt when I listened to that song was similar to what I felt in the first two tracks, the same tingling sensations rushing up and Down my body.

I was heavily anticipating what I'd feel during my favorite song of all time, Not Unlike the Waves- but Alas, right before the best part, some fuckwit called our house and the phone rang! I had to go turn it off, and while I didn't miss the best part (the part where the cleans come in for the first time) I can't help but feel the experience wasn't nearly as good as it could have been. It took the rest of that track and the 1st part of Our Fortress is Burning before I could settle in again, thankfully not missing the climax of Bloodbirds.

But this particular spin of the album showed me yet something else that was new. As Bloodbirds died Down and The Grain started to play, my eyes came open. I'm not sure why- I didn't feel forced to or more awake, they just did. My vision started to blur. the ceiling fan above me started to disappear from my vision, even though my gaze was focused directly at it. the room got inexplicably brighter, and the light on my ceiling started to resemble a shadowed moon- however, I kept snapping out of it and couldn't really focus well enough to let these visions run free. Still, I was in a slightly altered state when I awoke- I felt somewhat dizzy and distorted, but at the same time I felt ecstatic (and still do now). I think I was actually slipping into a lucid dream near the end there. Next time I'm feeling in the mood for this album I'll be sure to focus better and hope the fucking phone doesn't ring halfway through. Fuck that guy.

And THAT is why this album is my unparalleled favorite of all time. No other album has made me feel like this yet, although a few have come close.

That phrase can be used outside of /mu/, you know. also fuck that place, it's terrible.

My "high" from the music seems to have worn off now, I'm looking at what I just wrote and wow, I rambled a lot.
