Didn't expect this to turn into such an argument. I've always seen the "post-metal" name coming from the Fact Wikipedia lists it as having post-rock influence. Also note the article says the genre has also been called "metalgaze" or "shoegaze metal". Now according to Wikipedia's article on post-rock:
Post-rock is a subgenre of rock music characterized by the influence and use of instruments commonly associated with rock, but using rhythms and "guitars as facilitators of timbre and textures" not traditionally found in rock. Post-rock musicians often produce instrumental music
There you go. In this context, it appears to me that "post" Means a continuation of it into a new style.

I don't fully Trust it. I just used it as an example. "Post" here isn't trying to imply metal is dead, or at least not from my point of view anyway.

Yeah, we already cleared that up.

Main thing to me that post-metal bands have in common is the album artwork, imagery and influence from non-metal genres such as Drone music and shoegazing. Imagery doesn't seem to be as dark in bands tagged as post-metal as other genres, for example, Jesu has quite a few songs that could be interpreted as Negative or positive, for example, "Silver" mentions people walking away, and a new beginning, and the line "you could tell me anything, but not what the future brings" could be taken either way because life could get better or worse. Or at least that's how I look at the lyrical theme of that song anyway.

Dude, album covers dont help define a music genre, thats just pathetic. The MUSIC helps define the music genre
