I think they were forgotten (along with High School Musical) as soon as Justin Bieber came along.

Just you wait till Madonna kicks the can. 0  She's even more superficial &talentless and will be praised for all sorts of stuff she done for music.

I can't say I liked Micheal Jackson, but I never hated him either. I think it's more like his family and record company tried to make as much money from his death as possible. It's all marketing and interests to get more people to see him as a legend.

After All, last year I was starting to wonder when are they going to bury him already and let his corpse be...no dead person deserves to Rot on the surface for months just to feed some money hungry people and corporations. So it's kind of pitiful in the end.

Exactly... well I still Hate Madonna. I actually like Michael Jackson's music, regardless of the fact that it was pop.

You gotta be shittin me
Seriously? I hope that was just Sarcasm, for someone that complains about bands being overrated, you strike me as the LAST person to make that statement.

No Sarcasm, brah. Thriller is the best-selling album of all time and Madonna's been doing what she's been doing for 40 years. Their music isn't anything I'd listen to on a regular basis, but it consists of solid, catchy hooks and extremely memorable choruses- they play pop music the exact way it should be played, and it shows, their names have stood the test of time.

Also, I know I complain that a lot of bands are overrated. That's cause most metal sucks. (I'm not saying this to "look cool" or anything, I mean, I'm praising Madonna in the same post for fuck sakes.)

I wouldn't attribute their fame to talent or brilliant songs. I attribute them to bussiness and marketing strategies. Meaning they know how to promote and sell their crap . Make an image, a name which people would automatically associate with being cool or trendy, as well as with being 'normal & fun'.

Just think designer clothes: they are just normal pieces of rags, but they are called 'Gucci' or 'Versace' or whatever, and that makes people spend money and like them, instead of getting the same damn things at a no-brand cheaper.

What Madonna and Michael Jackon did isn't just catchy music - there were a shitload of pop artists even in the 70's and 80's that did the same thing. It's business, sales, creating scandals and appearing in all media - that's what gave them the 'legend' status. As a contrast to real legends like Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Bob Dylan, bands like Black Sabbath or Iron Maiden who didn't need that(at least not to such a great extent) to get famous.

Enigmatick, you're grounded! Go to your room, put some real metal and meditate on your last messages...

totally agree. Pop music is just that.. POPULAR music, its a business. i doubt hardly any of those Musicians even give a damn whether they're lyrics make any sense as long as they sell 100 Million copies (Hell, i wouldn't either if i was able to write incoherent shit and make billions off it).
and the Controversial aspect just helps promote their music even further, in some respects, i think Varg Vikernes used the same strategy in the early 90's with Burzum. it certainly helped get his band out there
