It's too damn hard to pick just 5 favorite releases this year, but some of the really stand out releases so Far for me have been
1) Anaal Nathrakh - Passion
2) Alestorm - back Through time
3) Varg - Wolfskult
4) Origin - Entity
5) Benighted - Asylum Cave
And about 2 dozen other great albums I've forgotten about at the moment.
As Far as concerts go, I've seen Deicide, Belphegor, and Blackguard on the "god is dead" tour back in feburary, got my picture taken with Jack Owen (formerly of Cannibal Corpse, now in Deicide). And also went Down to St.Louis to see Skeletonwitch and 3 Inches Of Blood (went crowd surfing during the last song of the night and almost landed face first on an amp on the stage )
Overall, I think 2011 has been one of the best years in metal in a looong time, alotta great releases and concerts coming up too
EDIT: the new Tyr album kicks ass, their last album was great, and the Lay of Thrym is better than their last one. Every track is so fuckin catchy, they did a Killer job coverin I by Black Sabbath too
