Now that I think about it, I can't get into most Power Metal bands. It just hasn't been the genre for me. The only Power Metal band I do like is Gothic Knights.



I suppose it's pretty weird that I don't like Power Metal and my boyfriend is into Iced Earth and Iron Maiden.

That's not weird at all, you're allowed to have your own tastes.

I know, but I assumed it would be weird since he's my boyfriend and he would probably get me into the bands he's into.

My girlfriend listens to pretty shit music and I know it...just 'cause they're suckin' yer face and ticklin' yer naughty parts don't mean ya gotta listen to the same bands.

@DMP Don't worry about not having exact same music taste as boyfriend, never been with anybody that could get my taste in Power Metal, either  . You'll be fine as long as you can tolerate it in the background and clearly say when you really don't like something. 
 
Might be better this way, since you might Avoid some childish  'who knows more bands'/ 'who is more tr00' competition - which is amusing up to a degree, but gets annoying fast. In The End, he's a metalhead too, you still have a tangence in the fact that he knows what the music is all about, should be fun for you.

I agree with what you said Raina, people should have more respect for each other's choice of music (though many Hate each other by it, ex. I never Saw a Metalhead and a Gabber being friends). This reminds me of an Event early this school year. Our art teacher asked everybody what his music style was,
so I said: I'm a metalhead.
He said: " Oh, that's just useless, stupid noise for barbarians. Classical music requires at least skill and finesse. Even modern pop incorporates it!"
Then i became quite angry and replied: "F*** off with your arrogant classical music. You don't know what you're talking about and the metal scene is at least a coherent scene and not a bunch of rich dudes that show off with their big cars and civilised manners!"

At Christmas I got 9O% on his exam

EDIT: back on topic. I'm trying to get into more old-school Thrash and Death metalbands. Not that I find it hard to get into them but finding them...

Classical is for fags and pretentious wankers. It's Far from the worst kind of music, but about 90% of people who listen to it do so for all the wrong reasons.

As for your request for old thrash and OSDM, better Head on over to the metal-archives forums, they seem to fellate the styles more than your average joe. I'm not a big thrasher myself but there's a lot of great OSDM, here's a thread you should give a look if you think the shit is hard to find:

Yeah, for sure. Unfortunately, most people seem to listen to it to seem highbrow or because for some retarded reason they think it's inherently Superior to all other forms of music just because it's classical.

I don't mind classical but it's really not my thing, the composers know how to write strong, efficient melodies, the compositions flow incredibly well, but NoNe of it really captivates me or draws me in.
