Most Japanese bands are classified as metal... but they aren't (
Visual Kei scene, it is just... odd). The only exception is
Versailles (The
Revenant Choir!). Now for my opinion:
-Raw Black Metal-
The production is just horrible. The only
Black Metal that is allowed to have lowered production is
Wolves In The Throne Room,
ColdWorld, and Dark Space (basically any depressive suicidal
Black Metal band or experimental
Black Metal band).
-Alternative Metal-
I
Hate it. Sold out.
Nickelback sucks.
Breaking Benjamin now sucks (first three were good, new one sucks). The only good
Alternative Metal bands are
System Of A Down and Lostprophets.
-Gothic Metal-
Almost all of the modern
Gothic Metal is about
Sex and love. What the hell?? What happened to the good
Gothic Metal of Sentenced? That was about life, dealing with troubles, and death. If someone can find me some good
Gothic Metal that is modern, be my guest.
Doom metal is actually fine if you go into the subgenres of it though. Like
Sludge metal, post-metal or
Drone metal.

Post-metal= Russian Circles
Drone=
Sunn O))) (Warning: this is extremely hard to get into because of the slow riffs, gbut it has some of the darkest and most awesome atmospheres in metal history).
