^^ agreed with last Two posts.

one thing that does bother me though, is the genre Progressive Metal, Prog Death, kinda thing. it's not specific. in my opinion. It's kinda what you call a band when you can't find a place for it in other genres, because it's an amalgamation of many other genres... make sense?

I agree as well.  Like what ryan5 said, they are there to help you classify what genre a band sounds like, without being too vague.  I especially love it for my music collection; iTunes has tons of different genres, but only one "metal".  While I do listen to classic rock, jazz, classical, etc., the bulk of my music collection ranges from prog, to melo death, to thrash, to Power, etc.  So, instead of listing every single song or album simply as "metal", it's much more specific, which helps me find what I'm looking for.  I'm know I'm just restating what everyone else has written, but I Wanted to provide my 2 Cents

classic Power Metal
Symphonic Power Metal
Electro Power Metal
Electro symphonic Power Metal

you know almost exactly what you're getting with each genre there. I think it's needed to keep all this progressive stuff under wraps.
