hmmm.. well i just recently got into the good metal (about a year and a half ago) but i first got into Death Metal when i SAW Amon Amarth's Video for Runes To My Memory, THAT, is was the first Death Metal band i really got into, after that, i started listenin to Dethklok (assuming they count as a band), Incantation, Gorefest, Jungle Rot, Putrid Pile, and Viral Load.

Heroes? Hmm... alright, Jeff Walker, Tardy bros, Jesse Pintado, Mitch Harris, David Vincent, Trey Az., Reifert, etc.

Avulsed, Dismember, Bolt Thrower, Immolation and Vader were the first bands that made me start listening to Death Metal.

I've seen worse starts.

Lots of folks get into Extreme metal starting listening to Slipknot, Cradle Of Filth or Children Of Bodom.

You've got much better references in my opinion.

Some of the first death bands I listened to were Nile, Cannibal Corpse, Bolt Thrower (The IVth Crusade, to be precise, which is still a whole fucking chunk of metal), Dying Fetus and Suffocation.

The first death bands i listened to was the greek ones . Homo Iratus and Nightfall . Those were the ones that introduced me into the kind . Then came Bolt Thrower which i respect highly (and will propably gona see them live this year   ) and Death .
Only lately (two last years) i was openminded enough to search for more.
