But I've been hearing it almost once a day for a year already!! Living in a dorm Means being exposed to idiotic trendy music.
At first it was intriguing by the lack of enthusiasm in the beat, but still annoying though. But after a while it became a plague!

I know the song , but i havent heard it much here . I guess i didnt end up in places that frequent such music , so i wasnt exposed to it much .

Song of 2010 in Belgium. The creator is the same guy like in the vid. We are getting wacked dead with that song. Plus that guy was completly unknown before this song and hasn't any musical talent at all. AND if you understand French, you'll hear that this song has a quite deep meaning. But this song doesn't make me proud to be Belgian at all

EDIT: fun to know perhaps. The 'band' name Stromae has a quite odd origin: a stroma is a microscopic part of a leaf. It plays a role in photosynthesis. It is also a part of the cellular tissue of animals. Anyone got a link??

the only words in the song I understand are 'work', 'tired', 'divorce', accounting terms and 'so let's dance' I guess french speaking countries have it worse...

The only other belgian singer I know is Plastic Bernard, he had that one song... it sounded like nonsense, only I thought it was fun.

If ypu want REAL good Belgian music, check Channel Zero, Ancient Rites or Black Box Revelation

Also a translation of that Stromae song: Some language education you know? Next year I'm going to follow language teacher course.

French original:

Alors on danse X 3

Alors on danse X9

Alors on chante

Alors on chante

Alors on chante
Alors on chante
Et puis seulement quand c’est fini

Alors on danse X9
Et ben y en a encore X5

English translation, done by ear, woe on me :

So we dance X 3

Who talks about study, talks about work
Who talks about work, talks about money
Who talks about money, talks about spending money
Who talks about credits, talsk about debts
Who talsk about debts, talks about a magistrate

Now, you're in the shit

Who talsk about love, talks about children
Say "for evr", you say divorce
Who has close family, talks about mourning
because problems don't come alone
Who says Crisis, says the world, says famine and says Third World
Who talks about being tired, talks about Awakening, still tired of the day before.
So we go out at night, to forget all our problems

So we dance X9

And you say: Now it's over, because only death is worse than this
When you think you're finish and there's Nothing left, there's even more
XTC Means problems or sounds like music in your ears
It gives you a trip, takes your Head and pray then it stops soon
But it's your body, it's not Heaven and close your ears even more
Then you even scream harder and it doesn't stop

So we sing
So we sing
So we sing
And if we think everything is done: so we dance
And there's even more

is it  popular? I've never heard it before.
as for music I can't stand, well I really don't like Coldplay, maybe it's a good band but  vocalists Voice makes me sick.

Stromae is popular in every country where they speak french or that has a big party and rave culture, the Netherlands or even Canada for example

I absolutely can't stand country
I'm at the point where I threaten to drive my car into a tree if someone puts country on the radio
