The ninth studio album by Korn is expected for release in Summer 2009, and according to an interview with vocalist Jonathan Davis, progress on the album will begin in November, 2008. Bassist Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu has stated in an interview that the album would mark a return to Korn's heavier roots.
In a chat session with Jonathan Davis on the Korn Korner fan site, on May 17, 2008, Davis confirmed that Ross Robinson would be producing the album. Robinson also acted as producer for the band's demo tape, Neidermeyer's Mind, and also their first two studio albums, Korn and Life is Peachy respectively. As these Robinson-produced releases were during the band's almost strictly nu metal era, this could be why Arvizu implied the album would make a return to their heavier sound. In the interview, Davis dispelled the rumor that a reunion with the founding members of Korn would occur for this album.
In a podcast with Headbanger's Blog, on May 30, 2008 Davis recently stated that Korn is expecting to be back in the studio recording their ninth album in November, 2008. Davis also expressed interest in playing with Brian "Head" Welch, Korn's former and founding lead guitarist, on this album, but stated that it isn't likely. Also, Jonathan stated that David Silveria, Korn's former drummer, will probably never play with Korn again.
