Faethom statement to concept debut album

Hailing from Fort Lauderdale, FL, Horror-themed Extreme Metal band FAETHOM will be self-releasing their debut album “In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Unholy” in late Spring of 2011. Co-founders and co-writers David Gomez (guitars, stuidio bass, and drum programming) and Mariela Muerte (lead vocals/keyboards), both Born in Bolivia, have been working on this project for over two years and have been the sole force behind the music. Not letting lack of label or financial backup stand in the way of releasing what to them is a labor of love, Blood, sweat, and tears - all good elements to have in the making of a successful album - they strive to bring forth this Hellish Spawn of theirs to the masses with the hopes of attaining label interest and expanding their cult following. Passion is their driving force and despite a rustic home-based recording setup, they have managed to release an EP entitled “Lullaby for Heathen Spawn” and have been promoting this album for the past year. In it you will find a riveting selection of five songs that will be featured in the full-length album, a decadent morsel to satisfy a craving for what is to come.

And what, you may ask, is the Macabre tale that inspired music fit for heathens? Well, let us delve briefly and cautiously into the story behind it all. Based on a horror short written by Mariela, the story features an unlikely protagonist, a severely isolated man named Victor, who is summoned by the Head of a nearby Convent, the Austere Mother Beatriz, described so aptly in the song The Letter, which, I must say, begins quite effectively with the lyric “Dear Mr. Garcia,” and is asked to assist in much-needed repairs to the Ancient convent. In accepting this task he is unwillingly pulled into a downward spiral of events involving a Demon in search of a virginal womb (Beware the King), a nun desecrated, impregnated, and Possessed (By the Lake of Sacred Eyes), a Demon baby who is Born with a particular
palette as so gruesomely depicted in the song  Lullaby for Heathen Spawn, conversations with Witches (Live in Dread and Ezrahmael), and of course the Dark Lord himself ---just a few of the themes and songs featured in a this unique package of Horror and Extreme Metal. Have I WET your sadistic appetites enough? I’m salivating already. The EP is a perfect way to get a taste of the album and contains five songs: The Letter, Lullaby for Heathen Spawn, Live in Dread, Beware the King, and Break the Vow. The debut of their album is definitely something to look forward to for it will contain the lyrics, so the more curious listener can follow along with the story, and of course the remainder of the songs.

And what does Faethom sound like? The music is greatly inspired by The Darkness and story-telling of King Diamond and Mercyful Fate but is given
an Extreme twist with guttural growls, Hell-inspired drumming, machine-gun
riffing and soloing, and dark, sinister keyboards. Faethom throws a little bit
of everything into this hellish melting pot of theirs - Thrash, Black, Death,
Doom, Old-School Heavy Metal, Melodic, and whatever else their blackened
heart’s desire. Much like a horror movie, this band promises surprises at every
turn and provides chills and thrills in every second of their music.

Currently the band is performing on a regular basis in the South Florida area and plans to go on a mini-tour throughout the entire state of Florida and possibly a few
shows in California later on in the year. For the live experience, the lineup includes the talents of Argentinean bassist Federico Vidal (formerly of Gaia), and Colombian drummer Daniel Reyes (formerly of Molech). My fellow Metalheads, I cannot say this enough: SUPPORT THE UNDERGROUND! Independent bands, like this one, have not much going for them when it comes to money but they have a passion, drive, and uniqueness that makes up for a production that may not be quite at par with the industry’s “standards.” Be prepared, for Faethom will delve deep into the darkest recesses of your brain with their music and bring you to the ultimate apex of fear with their tales.
