Frédéric Leclercq (born in June 28, 1978 in France) is the bassist for power metal band DragonForce and the frontman in his own band,
Maladaptive, where he sings and plays guitar. He is multi-talented and can play bass, guitar, keyboards, and can sing. He is a session musician for various other bands and is also an ex-member of the French power metal band
Heavenly.
Raised in a musical family of both French and German ancestry in France, Frédéric Leclercq learned piano from an early age. He discovered his passion for Heavy Metal at the age of 12, and then swapped from piano to guitar. After having played in successful yet underground metal bands in his area, he joined the French band
Heavenly. He recorded 2 albums with them, Sign of the Winner and
Dust to
Dust, toured Europe twice with bands like
Stratovarius and
Edguy.
In 2004 and together with the bassist and the drummer he left the band and formed
Maladaptive, a heavy thrash metal band. They released a demo, did a tour in France, opened for
Anthrax and are currently working on new songs.
In 2005 Frédéric appears on Carnival in Coal's latest record, Collection
Prestige, performing a schizoid and neverending solo. Later that year he was recruited as a live guitarist by the band
Jaded Heart, touring in Spain as an opener for
Helloween
Frédéric is a long time friend of DragonForce lead guitarist Herman Li and when DragonForce's previous bassist, Adrian Lambert, decided to leave, Frédéric was recruited as a live bassist for the remainder of their Japan and North America shows. He was then asked to become DragonForce's permanent bassist at the end of the British section of the 2006 'First Strike Tour'. Frédéric's ability to perform harsh vocals has also been utilised by DragonForce, performing the harsh backing vocals that appear on certain songs on the
Inhuman Rampage album on-stage. In Canadian and European shows, he's spoken to the crowd in French.
