I'm not sure if there is already a thread like this one, but here it is anyway. Black Metal is one of those genres which has developed quite a lot over it's 30/40 years of it's existence. SO this is my question for you: which decade of Black Metal do you like the best, and why?

Provide justifications including:
- particular land-marking bands
- important albums
- significant metal festivals
- particular events in Black Metal history
- general subjective opinions... (lets get some debate going on here )

I remember having fun once, it was terrible...

In my personal opinion some AWESOME releases were made during the 80's such as the Bathory classics, Sarcofago's INRI & Rotting, the early Root and Master's Hammer albums, Fallen Angel of Doom, CF and Hellhammer, the first Sodom, Kreator & Destruction releases (albeit thrash, yet very influential) and so on...

Okay nineties: some very good bands (Dissection, Emperor, The Moaning, Nifelheim,Unanimated, Archgoat Mayhem, Absu etc) and some very poor/mediocre bands ( DF,, Vondur, Abruptum, Von etc)

2000: euh, lots of shit DSBM bands, won't mention names you know them all. However very good releases by bands such as SotM, Negura Bunget, Nocturnal, Teitanblood...

A Ton of the landmark Black Metal albums came out in the 90s, and even more specifically, in 1994:
