What is the best album by Atheist? My collection of tech death is lacking, so I thought Atheist would be a good addition.

I would definitely say Piece of Time. It's technical but it's not just "technique", if you see what I mean.

Piece of Time and then Elements

Elements for me. All their early albums are good though; it's just that ones has less wank and more straightforward death/thrash. Most people cite thhat one as their weakest album, so you may not agree with me, but really, you can't really go wrong with Atheist, you'll get good music no matter what you get.

Unless you get their new album, that sucked ass.

Unquestionable Presence and Piece of Time are just about perfect albums. Elements is good, but the production is pretty weak in general, and Jupiter, while not bad, kind of comes off as an afterthought much of the time.
