Biography : Woden (FRA)

Some years ago in France, Yann (bass, and also founding member of Trash Metal band Ashes, who was then splitting) and Guillaume (vocals and lyrics), both proud of their Normand and Norse blood, ironed out the first axes of Woden.

This name means Odin in old Germanic, and mightily reminds of the Viking origins of our two friends.

The songs of the duo tells us, in their very personal way, and in French, about the ancient pre-christian Norse culture, and its various battles, the Death Metal way, a musical genre so dear to Yann and ultimate for Guillaume.

Our pair had accumulated original comopositions a whole year long, when they found a guitar player, which allowed them to start a long series of rehearsal, concluding with a demo tape in July 1999 (with a studio drummer).

But in March 2000, it got really serious. Their meeting with F. Gaubert (ANERYS Records), independent producer, brought forth another series of rehearsal (with a change of lead guitar) to prepare for Woden's first LP.

Meanwhile, Guillaume left French soil to start a new life in Norway, in far-North Narvik. It didn't stop the band's musical journey, his role of singer and co-founder of Woden being firmly held in place by regular travels back and forth to France and continuous communication with Yann.

The following year (summer 2001), Woden's LP "Le Prix Du Sang" ("Price of Blood", 9 tracks) was recorded in BMT studio, with Didier Tillit (Treponem Pal/Gothic/Hoax/Ashas/Fate...) for sound and mastering, and the drummer Medi Allyahia. Official release: January 2002.
