    Verbal Deception's biography
Verbal DeceptionDriven from the forces of the unknown
    From the shadows of deep
From the depths of the ocean's floor
    Never woken from its sleep
Scavengers arise from the bowels below.

It was in a basement where the idea for a sound in metal first crept into the twisted minds of Walt Fleming, Kresho Klarich and Taylor Pierce. Walt was experimenting with various keyboard patches when he stumbled upon the Bandoneón soundVerbal Deception, while in the background Kresho manically played his Flying V. Taylor, the drummer at the time laughed, saying it sounded like pirate metal. They wrote one of their first tunes, "Pirate Attack"Verbal Deception, around that theme and then joined as a trio to form Verbal Deception. Together they would combine Celtic and gypsy melodies with power and prog metal ferocity to bring unto this world the cryptic beast of piracy. Yet still something was missing.

Past times slowly slip from my mind
My thoughts become those frozen in time
    Remember your forgotten past
    From ages dead
In the halls of the lost
    Our lives unthread

Treading the waters would prove extremely difficult for the three, with Taylor living in another city. Johnny Iocca joined the group for a year before Jordon Bourgeault, a captain Morgan-esque figure, who fit the band like a glove, replaced him. A raging fury of percussion now filled every venue they played. Bass virtuoso Terry Baldwin later joined the band. Now, they had everything they needed, Walt's menacing melodies, Kresho's speed metal guitar riffs, Jordon's twisted sense of timing and Terry's thundering low-end assault. Power, melody and percussion all fused to create a vicious new Pirate Metal sound. After much pillaging, Terry sailed on to other shores with the frigate, Caveat, and Matt Petti was recruited to take over bass duties with the Deception. With the low-end covered once again, Verbal Deception was ready to continue their journey across the seas.

    Here I stand
    Rum in hand
    Sea born scarab
    Not of this land

Like the real pirates of days gone by they are outcast from the bored imperialism of the music mainstream. Verbal Deception stands on its own, creating new sounds for anyone who dares to listen to their music.
