biografía : The Ciem Show

This project has been envisioned for nearly a decade within the minds of Brian Gawaski (Ciemnosc) and Shawn Eldridge (the two main characters in The Ciem Show) who have been playing music together since 1998.

Starting out with more of a death/black metal inspired sound they formed the band Abysmal Gates in 2000 to record demos and play a few shows locally but then decided to take the time out to refine their style and reassess their goals.

During this time, they ended up recording an EP which was released in 2004 on underground label Black Flame Records. Immediately afterwards came the intention of moving things into a direction which would give them more creative freedom to keep evolving and challenging themselves as musicians, artists, and human beings. This involved seemingly endless periods of constant re-evaluation and also lead to individual collaborations with a few respected death/black metal bands from the tri-state area such as Funebrarum, Abazagorath, and Beyond The Flesh.

During this time a lot of personal and artistic growth took place between the two aspiring musicians and they were finally able to begin creating the music that they themselves wanted to hear.

With newly found inspiration drawing from the works of 20th century classical and avant-garde composers to free jazz and 70's prog rock, their approach to music was greatly affected as well as their outlook on music in general. Seeing things in a whole new way they began experimenting further, integrating all of these influences into their own form of expression. It was agreed that they had finally found a suitable style of their own that they felt to be an accurate representation of what was discussed as being heard within the soundtrack of their minds since the beginning.

With this new sound they changed the name to The Ciem Show (in reference to a Peter Gabriel era Genesis song called The Cinema Show) and managed to put together a full length album's worth of material consisting of seven movements, which are all independently structured but written and arranged as one complete work.

With the intention of eventually taking this new music to live audiences they re-recruited a few musicians from various Abysmal Gates lineups including Roger Pineo (Ephialtes) to play bass guitar and keymaster Avarice along with new member Chris Marti on second bass.
