Biografia : Slug (BRA)

The band SLUG arose in Brasília, in 1992, inspired by the 70's and 80's heavy rock bands. The band's first lineup, Carlos André Cascelli (vocal and guitars), José Mário Vinhas (drums) and Gustavo Parolin (bass), participated on the principal cultural events of the city, being eminent at the press.

In 1993 guitarist Rafael Ciampi joined the band. Promoted by the favorable critics about its work, SLUG recorded its demo tape, named SLUG DEMO TAPE, with the following songs: Refuge, Outside the Garden and Balance. The tape was enough to spread out SLUG' songs to many parts of Brazil and the world.

The band went out into studio sessions to record its first album entitled SHATTERED. Released in 1997, the album was a hit to the critics and the public. In 1998 a new guitarist, Guilherme M. Negrão, joined the band’s after Rafael´s departure.

The success of SHATTERED led the group to several shows and festivals in Brazil and abroad. The band shared the stage with renowned artists like the ex-Iron Maiden’s singer Paul Dianno, the bands Nightwish and Overkill. The band also accomplished a South-American tour.

In 2000, SLUG released the MAXISINGLE with three new songs - Waiting to Die, Alone and I'm Trying - being the only band selected to play on the principal stages of two of the largest festivals in Brazil: FestRock and Porão do Rock 2001. In that later, the band played to approximately 70 thousand people. The critic elected SLUG as the revelation of that festival. The audience also consecrated SLUG as the best band of the festival through an Internet voting. In the same year, the band occupied the national media attention, and the song Alone was played on daily programs of several distinguished radio stations in Brazil.

In April of 2002, the album POINTS OF VIEW was released and allowed the band to reach another musical level and a hardcore following. By mid-2003, Ricardo Coura replaced drummer José Mário Vinhas who had quit the band by personal reasons.

SLUG started 2005 ready to prove that the best metal is not always an American or European- born. In order to achieve it the band released, in July, their new album NOT FOR SALE to keep the growing success of this band and to consolidate the name SLUG as one of the most powerful names of the world heavy metal rock.
