Biography : Reprisal Scars

The band was engineered by Paananen & Halonen and their desire to play some cover songs from various acts. After some time we got a rehearsal place at Lutakko and started playing. However, it didn't take us long to realize that we wanted to perform our original material instead of cover tracks, and so we needed a full line-up for the band. Therefore we decided to ask Markkanen and M. Paananen to join our cause.

After about eight months of writing, arranging and rehearsing we entered Sam's workshop determined to record some heavy s*it. Sessions went really well considering the circumstances (first time in studio for all the guys), and the result was called very originally “Demo 2004”. Once the demo was published, we started to look for gigs. Unfortunately there were some line-up changes that made it impossible for us to pursue that path any further. In late summer 2004 Kumpulainen joined the Scars squad to perform duties as our bass player and we started a rigorous rehearse period to introduce him to our material. Around that time Rautio made a short visit as our second guitarist, but after a while he decided that he couldn't split his time between two bands and chose to concentrate on Unveiled. Fortunately Humalajärvi came to our aid and took the place of the rhythm guitarist.

The next big step for us was the recording of “Evidence”, which saw the band progressing from more simplistic approach to more progressive and melodic expression. After the recording sessions we had our first gig. The date was April 8 and the place was Yökemia. There were about 40-50 people there to see us. On the following summer we were in hibernation due to other duties of the band members, and in fall 2005 Humalajärvi moved to another city and left a place open for a second guitarist.

Since his last visit in our ranks Ratio's main band had gone to a comatose state and he felt that he could give it a shot with us again. After some serious training we were ready to play our second gig. It went very well (despite our drummer's injuries) and we saw a third one coming up as the winter turned to spring.

The summer was reserved for some serious training and in August we had a full schedule of performances and studio time. So after the gig at Lutakko Liekeissä festival we entered Studio Watercastle to give birth to our third bastard child “Done Is Done”. Sessions went on quite smoothly and the material turned out to be stronger that we expected. The songs were a bit more “matured” and due to Rautio's comeback the band sounded more stable and consistent. The sound of the recording was also closer to what we had been striving for.

After a few days of rest we headed to our (mini) tour with Heavy Metal Perse. The tour consisted of seven gigs and lasted for the rest of August and a few weeks of September. All in all we visited six different cities and had some great shows & experiences.

When the tour ended we took a short break from rehearsing and gave our ears a rest. Although the break was brief, everyone got some new energy from it and was anxious to be on stage again. Fortunately we still had two shows left before the year ended. The first was in Rentukka (Jyväskylä) and the second in Äknepop festival (Äänekoski). Both gigs were great although we had to use a replacement guy for Rautio in Äknepop. Especially the crowd turn up in Rentukka was a pleasant surprise.

At the moment we're cooking up some new sh*t and getting ready for the gigs to come. Stay tuned for more reprisals
