Biography : Jane Dark

Jane Dark was formed in April 2000 when Arpad Deak (at that time he was a member of the band Carnal Forge from Toba), persuaded his old high-school friend Gyori Norbert,to start a band. This idea was based on similar musical interests and years of friendship. The idea for the band’s name came up after having seen the movie called “The Story of Joan of Arc”,and four of the songs were already composed at this time (e.g. Behind the Walls). Right after this Arpad had to do his national service. In the meantime Norbi continued his search for musicians to join the band; by March 2001 the band was finally complete, but in June it was Norbert’s turn to serve in the army. By August 2002 everything was seemingly back on track, composing was also going well, but quarrels often occurred between the two founding members and the rest of the band, mostly because of misunderstandings concerning music. Soon after this the band started exchanging drummers and singers, finally in May 2003 Norbert became one of the vocalists apart from playing the guitar. By January 2004 the band had already composed 32 songs, but Arpad grew tired of the constant exchange of the members and the financial problems they were facing, so he returned to his former band, Carnal Forge. The rest of the band felt that Jane Dark was no longer the same without Arpad, so they changed its name into Mortus Causa and, ignoring their former conception, they started playing covers.Later Boros Attila from Ashen Epitaph took Arpad’s place, and in April 2004 Norbert joined this band too as guitar player. Despite the band turning out to be a failure, Arpad and Norbert stil hadn’t given up their ideas and they decided to record a studio album containing some of their already existing songs, and look for members for the band later. The recording started in June 2004, they were using computer-generated drums, and they were in a difficult financial situation. Their work was going slowly, still they managed to record the singing. Not ong after that all the material they recorded so far got lost due to a mistake. The guys will certainly remember the 17th of August of 2005 as long as they live. During the period between 2005-2009 Norbert was an active member of the bands Haematuria and Ashen Epitaph (member of the latter till this very day), and Arpad played in Vicious Eclipse and All the Arms We Need. Having recovered after their disappointment, and after having saved some money, they decided to give it another go and started recording Jane Dark’s new album in November 2006, this time with the participation of drummer Szabo Endre who rejected membership in Jane Dark earlier because he was a member of Nevergreen. The recording of the drums was finished after four days, but the band was forced to take several longer breaks, again because of financial difficulties, but in January 2009 they could finally continue their work and record the singing. This time the studio caught fire, but this was considered to be a sign that not even God wants the recording of this album to be completed, so the band knew they were on the path to success. Mixing the material has been going on since March 2009. It is almost certain that nobody will be satisfied with the outcome, but after so many wasted years and energy, it doesn’t matter anymore. The biggest pity is the absence of the violin, which was caused by a disease. Soon the search for a publisher will start. The album’s title “Voices from the deep” refers to the constant failures which were holding the band’s work back, but also to the underground-like music style and the aggressive oppression that is present everywhere in today’s social and political life. The tree on the cover can be found in a cemetery in Magyarcsernye,a town in the northern part of Serbia. The recording of the second album, “Doors to Silence” , will begin this year, after that there may be new attempts to perform live. The songs from the second album were also composed between 2000 and 2004, just as the ones which will be on the third one.
