    In The Woods's biography
In The WoodsThe story of Norway's most peculiar band, IN THE WOODS..., began in 1992. Several individuals gathered forces in the autumn of that year, with the common quest to connect sounds and thoughts into musical compositions. The first approach, being a rehearsal demo, was released in spring 1993. The 'Isle of Men' demo, which sold more than 3.000 copies world-wide, followed the same year, and conceived co-operation with Misanthropy Records.
In 1994, after almost three years in making, IN THE WOODS...' first full length album, 'HEart of the Ages', was released. It contains seven symphoniesIn The Woods, the style of which ranges from progressive Heathen Metal over Black Metal influences to classical music and features many different vocal styles. Thus it's impossible to label the art of these Norse pagans as one particular style of music.

Then, after one year of silence, a 7" was released containing two tracks, a re-recording of 'Mourning the Death of Aase' (a track from the debut-CD)In The Woods, and a quite uniquely interpreted cover version of Jefferson Airplane's 'White Rabbit'. The single also introduced IN THE WOODS...' new shiver-inducing female vocalist. In autumn 1996 the band headlined the very succesful 'Autumn Wilderness' European tour, with support from Katatonia and Voice Of Destruction.

Two years after the release of their highly acclaimed debut 'HEart of the Ages', IN THE WOODS... returned with the phenomenal follow-up 'Omnio'. The praise of the bands debut leaves it speaking for itself and, likewise, 'Omnio' does the same, highlighting the bands musical maturity and development, compositional expertise, and broadened approach into much more progressive and individual fields.

'Omnio' is a journey in five parts, melodically hypnotic while aggressive and pure: A soundtrack to the rise and fall of mankind.

Again almost a year after the release of their latest album, a 7" was released. It also contained a cover version - this time of Pink Floyd's 'Let There Be More Light' - as well as a re-recorded old track, namely 'Child of Universal Tongue', being a radically changed song from their five years old rehearsal demo. The idea is to release another 7" later, to complete a trilogy.

February 1999 brings their third full-length album, "Strange In Stereo"... a soundscape journey of longer than an hour, tinged with moderate psychedelia and emotion.

Venturing even further into the progressive evocative fields they had started to take with their second album, IN THE WOODS... create emotional landscapes both in the metal realm and beyond. Complex audial expression for the enlightened listener. Simply brilliant. In December 2000 the band performed their last concert in Kristiansand, Norway, which marked the end of the band. The decision to split up had come earlier in the year 2000.
