Biography : Idvarp

Idvarp was summoned in 1999 in the murky swamps of Palmerston North, New Zealand by the combined forces of guitarist Cale and original drummer Andy, driven by the ancient spirit of first and second-wave Black Metal. Initially cemented by the addition of bassist Caz The Prophet Of Doom, this lineup set about creating vicious hymns performed at insane speeds, combining thick, warped riffs with a distorted melodic undertow and hypnotic, dissonant musical structure. The addition of vocalist Swensson (who soon picked up second guitar duties too) saw the first 3 years of the band's existence culminate in a bizarre live show involving the band slotted between two punk-rock outfits. The weirdness of this show was heightened by an absurdly loud volume level which drove the majority of the audience outside, where they could hear the music without sustaining major internal injuries. A few diehards remained indoors though, and were quite possibly treated to permanant hearing loss as a result.

Not long after, Andy decided to move on, suddenly deciding to quit music altogether. There is no need to go into any futher detail on the situation. His replacement was longtime co-lyricist Ogre, who had also been known to fill on drums occasionally. This next incarnation led to the recording of a self-titled demo, limited to 50 copies. Recorded in a somewhat drunken state on unfamiliar equipment, the demo has a strange, obscure mix which serves to obfuscate the majority of frequencies, giving the music a bizarre, otherwordly quality.

Currently the band is working on new material for upcoming releases, as well as possible live shows in the local area. With the music moving in a much more epic, violent old-school metal inspired direction, the underground should expect the new recordings to completely destroy the previous effort and create an even higher level of harrowing sonic torment.
