Rose from the darkness in the frost and fog of Northern Italy in early 2003 as a project of Simone who felt a strong need to realize his musical ideas, deriving from the passion for harsh sound structure and melodic and symphonic solutions.
The enthusiasm of Mario Farina and Jacopo Matticchio (former bass player in the band) in a Sunday afternoon of alcohol infused speeches was the right fuel to ignite the flame.
Soon after, Daniele Roverato and Lorenzo Pini, who previously played together with Simone in another project, were drafted to complete the core of the band. Sara Rossi (former female singer) joined the shadows to complete the line-up.
The band started writing very heterogeneous songs, combining black metal, thrash metal and classic heavy metal with gothic and decadent melodies. The result is a very particular sound, enriched by three voices classic clean male, scream/growl, and female soprano.
The band members all have different backgrounds that emerge, creating an interesting mix of influences. As time goes on, the blurry idea in Simones head starts to get clear. The band seems to work great and after just 10 months Grinning Shadows face their self-produced first recording experience: Elegy in Blood. The band didn't want to record just a regular promotional CD with a few tracks, but wanted to record all the songs written so far: Elegy in Blood is a concept album and Grinning Shadows want to make it clear. The recording sessions lasted for two months and the band was finally ready to release the album on October 31st, 2004. 500 copies of Elegy in Blood were released. The album was well appreciated in the underground metal scene and got awesome press reviews (Top-demo title on the heavy metal national magazine, Metal Shock, and a grade of 82 on the biggest and most important Italian heavy metal portal, truemetal.it).
After the release of the CD, Sara and Jacopo decide to leave the band and Grinning Shadows decide to move to a higher level by recruiting second guitar Tiziano Valente, bass player Daniele Dui and the wonderful and talented singer Silvia Rigoni. As the band plays many gigs around Northern Italy to promote Elegy in Blood, Grinning Shadows start writing new material reaching a more mature sound and a much more aggressive attitude. Finally, Grinning Shadows reached its ultimate stage: the band is now an indivisible entity and its members are unique pieces to complete the puzzle. The grinning mask of evil is now unleashed...

Grinning Shadows live experience is all to try: the band on stage really kicks ass, and the many fans acquired during their live activity is certain proof. The ambition of the Shadows is to export their music and attitude all over Europe and the whole world, reaching everywhere with powerful live shows and new albums.
