Biography : Forest Of Impaled

We began our terror back around 1994, with original members Dan Prawica (vocals), Andy Rusin (drums), Mark Trela (guitar) and Adrian Adamus on guitar. Originally we were influenced a lot by bands such as At the Gates and Amorphis. Being on new band and just starting out we did not yet have a set definition of style, so our music was a bit influence by the Swedish metal scene. After some years of practicing we began to notice that our style was leaning a lot towards the black metal scene, we enjoyed the fast paced drumming and melodic overtones of the guitars so naturally we were impressed by this style. After experimenting with the style and writing some material, we decided to record our first professional release, Mortis Dei. The album was very much old school black metal, as it would be described nowadays. Lyrically and musically it was inspired by medieval warfare, mysticism, and the black arts/occult. It was released by Terrorizer Records in the US and Vox Mortis Records in Poland.

Our first full length, Demonvoid, recorded in 99 was a evolution to a more death/black style, it focussed on continuing topics of religious hate, desecration, the occult, and one song was even dedicated to Vlad Tepes the original Impaler. The music was basically more structure but not refined in the we were still trying to find our own style. Demonvoid was unfortunately the last album for both Dan and Andy, due to personal reasons both departed the band on good terms. In there place, Duane Timlin and Marcus Kolor were enlisted in the FOI camp to continue the mayhem.

With Forward the Spears we have come to a point where our style is a mixture of all kinds of metal, death/thrash/black/extreme styles, it is our best released to date and we are very proud of this album. Forest of Impaled is and will always be a band that evolves, we play what we feel and do not have any formula when creating new material. Mortis Dei and Demonvoid were important albums, since they taught us in what areas we have deficits and in which areas we are powerfull and convincing of the torment we create. Currently we have had yet another change to our ranks, with the departure of Duane Timlin and the addition of Varyen (Damnation) on the artillery shells/drums. We march forward with hate in our veins to Forward the Spears to the death.
