Biography : Eternal Chaos (BEL)

The Early Years

Once upon a time, two guys from Dilbeek City decided to dramatically change the course of their lives. Inspired by Interfear's guitarist Bart De Cooman, Wim and Bram came up with the idea of playing some loud and heavy music.

In the summer of 2000, history was being made. First things first: a band name had to be found. After days and nights of brainstorming, “Eternal Chaos” was born. But, without instruments no music… some equipment had to be bought. With the help of our dear friend Bart, we were able to choose the right tools. An ESP bass and a Jackson guitar were purchased, and nothing could stop us from conquering the planet!

We borrowed two amps from two very nice guys (complete strangers to us), and Bart sold us a small distortion pedal to get us on the way. The legendary first repetition took place at Wim's house. Without a single guitar lesson, we started playing “riffs”. The only two songs we could figure out were Madball's “It's My Life” and Pro-Pain's “Foul taste Of Freedom”. Anyway, we had fun… As we were clearly not yet good enough to play GOOD music, we decided not to waste the time of a possible singer.

School started again, and we found a good place to practice, Wim's carhole. After convincing his dad, we were settled. “Bleeding Eye” was our first song. On a cold November evening, we were honoured by the visit of “Nonkel Freddy”. He came from the cemetery close to Wim's house, played some songs with us, and left, never to be seen again.

Forced by the cold weather, we left the mighty carhole, and went to play in Bram's (heated) room. Resolved to stand on our own feet, we bought our own amplification. A couple of more songs were written, and we felt it was almost time for…

Reinforcement

Obviously, somebody had to sing those songs. Many tried, even more failed. Until suddenly… an angel came falling from the sky! Tim, a school buddy, wanted to give it a try. He came, he sang, and he conquered. “It's A Must” was the first song to be sung by our new singer.

As the weather was turning hot again, we returned (with a little help from Stijn and his car) to our beloved carhole. The world was finally ready for more EC material, and more music was written by Bram. Wim provided most of the lyrics. But apparently, not everybody could cope with EC's raw music… a chick from the local tennis club came to tell us that “the little children were having nightmares because of EC's music”.

Wim's dad had the guts to mess with his own garage, so we couldn't rehearse there anymore. Bram's room was the only alternative, and thus it became our regular “studio”. With “The Slut Part II”, EC's first hit was created. The fans' reactions were overwhelming. This only increased our need for a drummer, to complete the band. For the first time, Geert was asked whether he was interested in joining EC.

Bram's first year at the university in Brussels was useful for at least one thing: he met Bert, a true Maiden fan, who provided us with a couple of lyrics, such as “Cannibal”, “The Tear Song” and “Apocalypse”. He occasionally also tried to sing, but he lived too far away to become a true member of EC.

True Evil

After months of brain-consuming thinking, Geert finally realized that the world of metal couldn't go on without him. He already had some experience (way back in time he drummed in an experimental band). The band provided him with a drum kit. Now EC was complete. The only problem was: exams. EC's repetitions were delayed for a few weeks, but in July 2002 nothing could stop the beginning of a new era in the existence of EC.

It took us a while to get used to playing together with four people, and obviously Geert had to find the right groove again. Once this had been achieved, the jamming sessions became more and more productive. The first song recorded was “Metallica Sucks Big Time”, followed by “Hell On Wheels”, an Acid cover. Not really sure about which style we should play, we experimented with Reggae, Punk, Hardcore, Black and Death Metal.

“CorpseFucker” was the name of the first ‘serious' song, with lyrics written by Wim. This revelation of his necrophilian fantasies provided him with his middle-name. He wasn't very happy with Geert's ‘comical' lyrics, so we had to choose between switching to a darker kind of thing, or kicking Wim out. After giving the second option some serious consideration, it was in the end decided that he would be allowed to stay (under several conditions). From now on, EC's lyrics would be brutal, filthy and disgusting (thanks to CorpseFucker). I (Bram) figured that, in a way, such lyrics are also sort of comical.

Now, EC almost reincarnated as a death metal band. To celebrate this, Six Feet Under's “The Day The Dead Walked” was selected as an ideal song to be played. The first EC show in history, at Alain's birthday party (probably in front of hundred's of screaming fans), was arranged for 19 October, so we were under a bit of pressure to get our show ready.

The first show

On the 19th October Grimbergen was conquered. After a short stop at Maria's cave and the local chips-stand (where a dwarf served us...), we were ready for our first gig. Mr True was pretty nervous, but after a swinging beginning we were on a roll. Unfortunately Stoker broke a string in the middle of 'Born Dead', but that couldn't stop us from rocking the kazbah. After 'The Slut Part III' the crowd went wild, and screamed for more. They got what they deserved: total chaos (CorpseFucker). The set was concluded with 'Whatever'.

After the show: free Palm! Clouseau's ex-guitarist congratulated us with our live performance, and offered his services. We kindly refused... The rest of the evening... I'm afraid we were very, very pissed.

Towards professionalism

After the amazing succes of our first show, we went underground again. Nobody saw us for months, making new songs was our obsession. We created the chaos! Songs like 'Downfall of the Nazarene', 'Crucifiction of the Priest' and 'Meathook Fucked' emerged from our sickened brains. In order to appear on stage again, Angel and Stoker bought new equipment: amplification!

The first 'official' demo 'Het Reeuwsche Beest' was recorded in may 2003, containing six tracks. We will distribute the demo, hoping to get some (positive) reactions. In the summertime, a few more gigs!?!
In the summer of 2003, our line-up altered. True Evil decided to leave the band. After a couple of weeks we found a replacement: Erik Gysen. We plan to record our first studio-demo in 2004...
