Biography : Ecnephias

Ecnephias
Southern Extreme Occult Metal from Italy

ENG - Ecnephias is an extreme occult metal band formed in Potenza, Italy, in 1996 by the frontman vocalist/guitarist Mancan (Ecnephias, Abbas Taeter, Saturnalis Nox, Maldiluna) lawyer and musician. However, despite having made three demo tracks, the italian act was idle between 1997 and 2004. The current line up, led by Mancan himself (supported by Sicarius), has welcomed, since 2011, Nikko, Miguel and Demil, called to replace, among others, Antonio Donadeo (well known for his past experience behind drums with Vital Remains). Miguel is no longer part of the band (from September 2015). The new bass player is Khorne. As of today, the band’s releases are the 2005 demo “November”, the 2007 full-length “Dominium Noctis” (Nekromantik Records/Masterpiece), the 2008 Ep “Haereticus” (Nekromantik Records/Masterpiece), the 2010 full-length “Ways of Descention” (Code666 Records/Audioglobe) - “descention” is a “pun” -, the 2011 full-length “Inferno” (Scarlet Records/Audioglobe), the 2012 cd compilation “Cold winds from beyond” (Behemoth Prod./Masterpiece), a selection of 18 tracks from the band’s first three works (“Dominium Noctis”, “Haereticus” and “November”), and the 2013 full-length “Necrogod” (Code666 Records/Audioglobe) with the special guest Sakis from Rotting Christ and the 2015 full-length "Ecnephias" (My Kingdom Music Records/Audioglobe) all of which received a positive response from the specialized press (Metal Maniac, Rock Hard, Terrorizer, Flash, Metal Shock, Grind Zone, Terrorizer, Zero Tolerance and many other metal mags and webzines) and gained the band wide esteem in the underground scene. Many reviewers consider Mancan as one of the best italian singers of the genre, for the exceptional timbre of his voice and the variety of his style (including clean baritone vocals and extreme growls). The sound of Ecnephias can be described as a personal blend of death, black, doom and gothic metal with a very personal ‘mediterranean’ and ‘theatrical’ touch. The language used is for the most part English, but a distinctive trait of the band is the frequent use of inserts in Latin and Italian. Ecnephias had in many occasions the chance to perform live as headliner or opening act for historical bands such as Exodus (Usa). Three years after taking part in the XV edition (featuring, among others, Forgotten Tomb, Extrema, Vader, UDO) the band has been confirmed for the XVIII Agglutination Festival (Rotting Christ, Dark Tranquillity). The band also played at the Total Metal Festival in 2009 (Finntroll, Malevolent Creation) and in 2014 (Moonspell, Annihilator, Behemoth) and in other musical contexts with bands such as Opera IX, Necromass and Frostmoon Eclipse. “Ecnephias” is the most important and exciting release of the lucanian act since their debut. The year 2014/2015 means so much to the band: it is the first ANNIVERSARY that celebrates 10 YEARS of activity of Ecnephias. For the event the band has recorded the new album, the third in a “trilogy” (The Trilogy of Thelema) that began with “Inferno” and continued with “Necrogod”.

Ecnephias and The Sad Wonder Of The Sun.
The partnership between My Kingdom Music and Ecnephias is stronger than ever and the result of this renewed collaboration is the release of the 6th creation "The Sad Wonder Of The Sun", an album that will confirm them as one of the darkest Metal band around and that, one more time, will surprise the listeners and the band's fans for the obscure and mystic power of their music and themes. The album has been released on July 7th, 2017.

After a reduction of the line-up to a powerful trio, Ecnephias enter the studio again to record a new obscure and magic chapter of their career, “Seven - The Pact Of Debauchery” that sees the band return to the dark essence of their roots. The 7th album has been realized via My Kingdom Music on March 21th, 2020.

The art of Ecnephias is exoteric, the art of Abbas Taeter is, on the contrary, esoteric. Both ways are occult magical paths. (Mancan)

"Our art is a dream and representation, fantasy and myth, unconscious and psychology" (Ecnephias).
Mancan has also offered his voice on some songs from the band Valkiria ("I have refused you" from the album "Blood on Blood" as well as other songs).
