Biography : Dark Sky

1982 to 1987
In the Swabian town of Rottweil in south west Germany, five students form a rock band.
The name: DARK SKY

As with so many other groups, DARK SKY is constantly changing its line-up.
In between club concerts, auditions and rehearsals the group still finds time to cut several demonstration recordings.

1986 sees the desired success when a recording company signs a contract with DARK SKY.
However, the finished recordings are never released.

1989
With the current demonstration tape “Living in Eternity“ DARK SKY is arousing a lot of interest.
The group wins the nation-wide talent competition „Das Sprungbrett“ (The Springboard).

For the first time the long-established competition honours a rock band.
As a result of magnificient reviews in various music magazines, “Living in Eternity“ reaches the status of an ‘insider tip‘- and with the cassette, the group as well, which in the autumn of this year makes about 30 appearances throughout south Germany.

1990
With the departure of the singer and guitarist, two immensely important musicians are lost simultaneously.

Although in the same year two highly talented colleagues join DARK SKY, the result is a career hiccup from which the group takes a long time to recover.

1992
The group DARK SKY gives up and disbands.

1993 to 1996
Frank Breuninger former guitarist and keyboard player with DARK SKY cannot let go – he breathes new life into the group and takes over the part of singer.

With guitarist Ashes and keyboard player Claudio Nobile, two new colleagues are quickly found, but the search for a rhythm section proves a lot more difficult.
These posts can be filled for the long term by Winny Zurek on bass and Uwe Mayer on drums.

The new beginning is complete. What is now remaining is one musician from the “old“ group, a few good songs and the name: DARK SKY.

In autumn 1996 DARK SKY again takes part (more for fun than anything else) in a competition, the “Dick Tracy Award“ held at the “Treffpunkt“ in Balingen.
Here the finalists do well and succeed in achieving a good placing.

1997
DARK SKY and producer Nik Herb begin recording the album “Believe It“.

1998
The work on the “Believe It“ album is finished. The production took almost a year to complete.
The result, 13 titles with a playing time of about 58 minutes, is really something to take note of –
and listen to!!!

The production, arrangements, songs offered as well as the cover artwork and insert come up to international standards.

This is first recognised by record companies in south east Asia.
“Believe It“ is released on the 31st August 1998 in Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore and Indonesia.

As the first western group ever, DARK SKY releases a song (“Masia ada Rindu“) in the national languages of the four countries and the associated video clip is also transmitted by all the important television stations.

1999
After discussions with several german labels DARK SKY signed a contract with the german indy label GOODLIFE RECORDS, located in Speyer, in autumn 1999 .

2000
„Believe It“ has been released in the most european countries as well as in Japan and USA.

2001
After intensive promotion of the „Believe It“ CD, with concerts and interviews during the first half of the year, DARK SKY began with the preparations for the 2nd album in the 2nd half.

2002
After selection of 12 new songs DARK SKY started in April with the production of the 2nd album for GOODLIFE RECORDS in the BAZEMENT Studio in Wiesbaden.
Steffen Doll, who played guitar for DARK SKY in 1990 supports DARK SKY during the production as well as singer Jojo Nimtz.

Having finalized the recordings for the album "Edge Of Time", DARK SKY and long-time guitarist Ashes parted ways.
Although many problems have been on the surface for some time the friendship among the band members prevented an earlier separation and finally the decision was made under mutual consent.

Steffen Doll initially was recruited only for the studio job but his outstanding guitar work on the record convinced both Steffen and the band to keep working together in the future on stage as well as in the studio, thus Steffen becoming a full band member.

Steffen Doll gave his remarkable live debut during the successful tour with DARK SKY label mates Twyster in November 2002.

2003
In early 2003 DARK SKY has entered the BAZEMENT Studio in Wiesbaden, Germany again to record the song Back Again.

The track was written for the comeback of cycling star Jan Ullrich with the intention to release it prior to the 2003 Tour de France as kind of an official Jan Ullrich hymn.

Unfortunately the record companies were having none of it. The managers obviously didn't want to risk a flop because they doubted that Jan could be very successful in the year 2003.

It's a pity if you look at Jan's great performance at the Tour de France 2003.

2004
You can call it a tradition already, with the beginning of the year DARK SKY hits the studio to lay down some new tracks.

The Demos were produced by Markus Teske again and got a good response from some record companies, so the band could choose from several contract offers to release their next album.

Finally in the summer of 2004 the band has signed a new deal with the label AORHeaven. The recording sessions for the complete album entitled “Living & Dying” are scheduled for late 2004.

2008
New Album release "Empty Faces"
