Biography : Bane And Illusion

Started in Kelowna, BC, Canada, Eirik spent the summer of 2005 recording and arranging different riffs and melodies he had experimented with over the years. From the beginning all aspects of the music were influenced from raw, productionless black metal, Scandinavia and norse mythology. The first demo was recorded in August 2005 and quickly saw the day of light at the beginning of September. Released under the name "Demisolace", 2005 Demo was raw, sharp, not without flaws and completely instrumental. 10 copies were printed and distributed (under the project name DEMISOLACE) with another 40 available but a different urge struck. As fast as it was recorded, the project was put on indefinite hold to concentrate on his writing. From Fall 2005 to spring 2006 Eirik had completed his first novel and successfully moved from Canada to a more "familiar" land (even though he had never been there before) -- Finland.

Once in Finland he began sending quere letters in search of a possible publishing contract. While waiting he was flooded with more ideas of musical recording nature. The 2005 Demo was persumed lost during the transfer of countries and so he began pre-production for a completely new album. In the midst of recording in his personal studio a discovery of enormous proportions was made, hidden away on the hard drive of Eirik's laptop was a back up of all the tracks for 2005 Demo. The new songs were put aside for the time being and with a guide to follow (the year old demo tracks) re-recordings of the old songs were being completed to better suit a new album. A new song was recorded (Old Raven Court) and old riffs and recordings were transformed into the two ambient tracks Lord Andrus Kalgan and Primeval Oath Broken (of which the original riffs were not used on the 2005 Demo but just left over in his head). Thus the album (and band name) Bane And Illusion were born in July 2006. The instrumental tracks were completed in July 2006 and the vocals were recorded in the first two weeks of August. On August 20th of 2006 the first full-length release of Bane And Illusion was released on the internet (available from links off this site and the Myspace site). During the re-recording of the demo tracks Eirik created the official Myspace site for Bane And Illusion which was used as the official site before this one was built. A hard copy of the album exists and is available directly from Eirik (10 euros, 5 for the album and 5 for shipping) but limited to 50 copies.

During the experimenting with the ambient track Primeval Oath Broken Eirik was inspired greatly by the soundscapes he had come to find hidden in the depths of his mind. After getting the debut release out of the way Eirik turned back to the recordings he had made before the discovery of the 2005 Demo and began working on a follow-up album (currently untitled). But during this time he continued to experiment with ambient, abstract sounds and began to create new ambient tracks (beyond what was offered in Primeval Oath Broken). The first decision was the release another album mixing his black metal with his ambient music but it was soon found out that this was not possible. There are now two albums being completed at the same time. A complete black metal album (8 tracks, approx. 50 minutes) and a complete ambient/soundscape album (6 tracks approx. 55 minutes).
