BALANCE OF POWER were formed in 1996 in the UK by Ex-Heaven and Earth musicians Bill Yates (git) and Ivan Gunn (Keys). The Line-Up was completed by recruiting drummer Lionel Hicks (ex-UFO, Gene Loves Jezebel a.o.) , guitarist Paul Curtis (ex-Lady Luck) and singer Tony Ritchie (Ex-Kid Wicked). After one demo only the band signed their first deal with Pony Canyon (Japan). Result of the deal was the 1997’ debut-album “When The World Falls Down” which acclaimed remarkable press and attention and gave the band a solid foundation. But to improve the “balance of power” within the band new members were added with bassist Chris Dale (ex-Bruce Dickinson) before the release of the debut and in winter 1997 guitarist Paul Curtis left the band due to private reasons and was repleaced by Pete Southern (ex-Kid Wicked). The next demos were recorded and another change was necessary, although a great singer it was obvious that Tony Ritchie’s range was unable to make full potential of the new material and was replaced by American singer Lance King (ex-Kings Machine). However Tony was to remain as one of the key song writers in the band as well as a great friend. With the ‘98 album “Book Of Secrets” BALANCE OF POWER perfectionized their sound and it turned out that new five octave range singer Lance pushed the band to a higher level. Towards the end of 1998 the band sadly had to part company with their keyboardplayer Ivan, who could not commit his time to the song writing and recording of the new album anymore, due to his ongoing solo project and his record label Anthem. The new album “Ten More Tales Of Grand Illusion” is their first album for Massacre Records. The trademarks of the band are superb melodylines, grooving rocksongs and emotional ballads, which are never missing the neceassary heavyness. The sound of “Ten more tales...” is on a top international level and presents the songs the right way. Recorded in the band’s own studio and once again engineered and produced by Lionel Hicks (Drums) and finally mixed in Minneapolis in the USA, with this new album BALANCE OF POWER will mark their breakthrough also in Europe without any doubt.
