Biography : Angeles Del Infierno

Angeles Del Infierno is a band formed by Robert Alvarez and Santi Rubio in the middle of the 80's in the beautiful city of San Sebastian (Euzkadi) and whose initial make-up was the following: Juan Gallardo: Voice Robert Alvarez: Solo Guitar Manu Garcia: Rhythm Guitar Santi Rubio: Bass Inaki Munita: Drums Soon they received an excellent reputation which allowed them to open for bands of the stature of AC/DC, Motorhead or Saxon at their concerts throughout the states. This was not overlooked by multinational WEA, who in 1984 decided to promote their first album, Pacto con el diablo (Pact with the Devil). The album was a complete success, in record sales as well as in reviews, debuting with a hymn like Maldito Sea Tú Nombre (Damn Your Name). Integrated in the National Heavy Metal movement, which at that time was at its pinnacle, the group intensely continued to play live. A year later they recorded their second LP, Diabólica, where songs like Con Las Botas Puestas (With My Boots On), Al Otro Lado del Silencio (On the Other Side of Silence) or Fuera de la Ley (Above the Law) created an exceptional place for them within the country's rock scene. The tour they would subsequently be on would take them to filled pavilions and stages, close to 60,000 people in some cases. With no rest, in 1986 they released Instinto Animal (Animal Instinct), a LP where the band begins a slight evolution in its musical forms. Soon after, that same year they release Joven para morir (Too Young to Die), which supposedly was the third longest in duration of their career, and in which they compile purely heavy themes along with other more surprising ones, like the ballad Pensando En Tí (Thinking of You). In 1988, their fourth project, 666, becomes their most widely sold record, not only in Spain, but throughout the Latin American communities, primarily in Mexico, where the band counts on legions of fans, and including the United States, a market that opens up to them as a result of this labor. The combination of their heavy roots with touches of more melodies result in more catchy songs like Hoy Por Ti, Mañana Por Mi (Today for You, Tomorrow for Me) or 666, which soon became the most performed song of their career. The repercussion obtained with this album was such that the band began receiving platinum records from various countries, making it possible for the band to jump start their first tour in the American continent. The welcome in Mexico could not have been better, before legions of fans completely devoted to a band which for years proclaimed their passage through Aztec lands. The subsequent continuation of the U.S. tour would not lack surprises, filling the famous Hollywood Palace up to the flag. After 5 long years of silence, in 1993 the band recorded their fifth album, A CARA O CRUZ (Heads or Tails), with a more elaborate sound, but always without losing the Heavy Metal dogma, a movement which in thse times went through a bad time in our state. This causes the record to not obtain the result awaited for in Spain, in spite of powerful songs like the very A CARA O CRUZ (Heads or Tails) and ballads of the quality of Jugando Al Amor (Playing with Love). However, the welcome of the same record was much more favorable on the other side of the Atlantic. This motivated the band to decide to settle down in the American continent to exploit the enormous possibilities that this land had to offer them. While their support in Mexico and the United States strengthened with powerful releases, the problems with the record company, with whom the group does not want to continue, makes it impossible for them to turn out new material. The company, at the sight of the millions of albums the group has succeeded in selling in the American continent, is unwilling to let them go, releasing a new compilation of the band in 1997. In 1998, with the sizzling Robert Alvarez and Juan Gallardo leading the band, now accompanied by Alfonso Polo on bass, Gustavo Hermosillo on rythmical guitar and Gerald García on drums, they embark on a new and extensive tour throughout the American territory, Mexico basically, that would culminate in closing the festival Vive Latino 98. The following year they continue another successful tour through Mexico and the United States, in which they would sellout one performance after another. In 2000, after finally obtaining freedom from the record company, the band considers recording a new album. But the success achieved in the United States again takes them on the road, where they headline one of the dates of the prestigious March Metal Meltdown festival, opened for by bands like Ill Nino and The Chasm. This same year, and after many absences again, the band takes its show to our state to take part in Viñarock 2000, with a touching performance. During 2001 and 2002 again they are on more the tours in Mexico and the United States, before the continuous growth of the group in both countries, to return, for the second time in the last few years, again to Spain for their forceful performance in Viñarock 2002, where the band presented/displayed some material which shortly will be on their new album. 2003: Todos Somos Angeles is released becoming number 1 in sales in the most important lists in Spain during the first week! Also the band is granted a MULTIPLATINUM record by Warner Music for their sales worldwide.
