WarMetal : 10/20 | After a « Soundtrack to Your Escape » not much convincing, the JESPER STRÖMBLAD’s band is back with « Come Clarity », an album that will arouse again a big polimic between partisans and detrectors of the band's new orientation.
The newborn is enough different from « Soundtrack to Your Escape » (STYE) insofar as we feel that the sweedishes try to make more efforts to produce a much melodious album (this is why it desereved a note better thant SYTE) and quiet close to « Reroute To Remain » which is not certainely the equal of a « Clayman » but that remains a better album especially in comparison with SYTE. So are the sweedish band convincing this time ?
Personally, I’ll put a big NO ! Why ? It’s not because the first band's fans are purists but it’s because that IN FLAMES haven’t no more ability to catch the attention of the listeners !
IN FLAMES offers here certainly a much meldious album that its predecessor but that shows that the band reached its limits just like THE HAUNTED. It’s a band that tried to develop by changing totally the style but we can see here that they can’t make those scales. Every melody is trying to be a degraded version from another melody of another album, and even with new equipment it dosen’t have any extraordinary touch. It’s the kind of performance that we listen to 3 or 5 times and that we forget forever after.
The only hope that I had while listening to « Come Clarity » is that this one is a good single ! As so was « Dead End » that starts with a catching melody and a charming feminine voice but this hope was disappointed by the following riffs, a worn new metal !
« Come Clarity » is not satisfaying the expectations and proves that the band has reached its limits. Sorry BJÖRN GELOTTE, but « Come Clarity » is not the best album of IN FLAMES but it’s rather one of the worst ones ! And it’s really disappointing to hear a talented artist like Bjorn giving these pure commercial déclarations.
The question is not are we for or against the new orientation but it’s rather : Can we really keep this « Come Clarity » in our own discography more than a month ?! 2005-12-29
