WarMetal, le Sunday 06 November 2005 talk to your friends

2 years after an “Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk” defying all rivals, Emperor was here with the successor "IX Equilibrium". An album that causes a big polemic on its launching, but who made everyone agree with one thing: Emperor is a band that belongs to another planet! It’s a band that has the secrets of a symphony in perpetual change but that can always seduce us.

Many changes happened in comparison with the precedent album, it’s certainly and always a black metal album but mixed with a death sauce!

In this album, Emperor brought again those majestic riffs and those harpsichords atmospheres that make the strength, the originality and the personality of Emperor. The guitar melodies such as “Curse you all men”, “An elegy of Icaros”, “Of blindness & subsequent seers”...are the kind of melodies that only can be played by IHSAHN.

What’s new about it then? It’s, first, the death metal riffs that I found, personally, original and that reflect the new orientation of SAMOTH that would be confirmed after, on his project “ZYKLON”. Also, it’s about the voice of IHSAHN that came more homogeneous and less acute in comparison with the two precedent albums and we notice strangely the presence of clear voice passage on the King Diamond way!!

The production is excellent and it can let us hear the instruments not as the ANTHEMS one. TRYM, the drummer, is always excellent, especially with his ultra-speedy and heavy blast beats. It’s a real human machine!!!

Challenge’s won then to IHSAHN and SAMOTH who knew that it would be impossible to reproduce “Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk” and that it would be worthy instead to take a new way while keeping the roots of Emperor and the result was: a perfect mix between the Black Metal and some elements of Death Metal which show the maturity level by the two lead members of the band.

An Excellent Album to keep!
